The Players’ Tribune, powered by Minute Media, is seeking a Senior Director of Athlete Relations to help lead the Athlete Relations team. This role will focus on cultivating targeted relationships within the basketball community—connecting with athletes, their reps, teams, and brands—for editorial, commercial, and experiential opportunities. Additionally, work to grow our community by engaging new and repeat contributors to uncover the best stories for our various content offerings (social, editorial, short-form, branded, originals, etc.). Assist in shaping the overall strategy to evolve the brand through athlete involvement, contributions, and partnerships across The Players’ Tribune and Minute Media.
What You’ll Do
- Work internally with the editorial, short-form, and sales teams to ideate, research, and pitch select athletes by liaising with sports agencies, organizations, and key individuals to develop relationships with athletes and their surrounding circles
- Deliver key athlete stories that align with outlined content goals
- Proactively identify, develop, and maintain relationships with athletes and key influencers within the basketball community
- Create a year-long, in-the-field plan to connect with key athlete targets in partnership with the Athlete Relations team
- Assist in the continued development of the athlete life cycle: initial outreach, ongoing communication, marketing collateral, gifting, milestones, etc.
- Explore strategic partnerships and collaborations to build brand awareness and deepen immersion in sports culture, driving increased athlete participation
- Assist with athlete community events and athlete-driven brand awareness initiatives
- Travel as needed to maintain brand presence and build relationships at tentpole events and content shoots
- Regularly update the athlete database (Airtable) to track and quantify personal athlete engagement and outreach
Where You'll Be
- Ideally located in NYC, but can be remote
- Approximately 25% travel is required in this position under normal circumstances.
The expected salary range for this position is between $140,000 - $150,000. Actual pay will be determined based on skills, experience, and location. The benefits available for this position include flexible vacation policy, 15 paid holidays, paid parental leave, health insurance, 401(k) with company match.
Requirements
What You Have
- 6+ years’ experience in booking / athlete management
- Strong relationships within the sports and entertainment industries, basketball focus a plus
- Experience managing multiple projects and planning programs
- Highly organized with great attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize competing tasks, projects and initiatives
- Skilled networker, relationship builder and confident communicator
- Creative thinker with a pulse on what is going on throughout the sports industry
- Enjoys a challenge, has a strong passion for sports
