About the Role:
Our client is a growing consumer products company in New York City and they are seeking an experienced Director of Logistics & Warehousing to lead their warehousing, freight, and logistics operations. This role is responsible for negotiating and managing relationships with third-party logistics providers (3PLs), ocean and domestic freight carriers, and ensuring cost-effective and efficient product flow from overseas suppliers to final destinations. The position will play a key role in long-term logistics strategy, including evaluating options for leasing or purchasing warehouses of their own.
Key Responsibilities:
Warehouse & 3PL Management (Top Priority)
- Lead negotiations with 3PLs to optimize storage, inbound/outbound costs, and value-added services (VAS).
- Oversee existing 3PL relationships, ensuring service levels, contract compliance, and cost efficiency.
- Manage warehouse contracts, addressing any issues with rates, service agreements, and operational execution.
- Evaluate and onboard/offboard 3PL partners as needed to improve cost efficiency and service quality.
- Ensure effective communication and invoicing between the company and 3PL partners.
Freight & Logistics Strategy
- Negotiate ocean freight, domestic freight, and LTL/FTL shipping rates to ensure competitive pricing.
- Oversee the full product journey from origin to final destination, ensuring seamless logistics execution.
- Assess the potential transition from FOB (Freight on Board) to DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) and the impact of tariffs.
- Work with brokers to evaluate shipping modes (LTL vs. alternative methods) and select the best approach.
Operations & SOP Management
- Review and enhance Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to improve efficiency and compliance.
- Implement and oversee necessary SOP changes based on operational needs.
- Provide leadership to the Customer Service & Warehouse Manager.
- Directly communicate with department managers to align logistics operations and strategic objectives.
Strategic Planning
- Develop and execute long-term logistics strategies, including evaluating the potential for leasing or purchasing a company-owned facility.
- Continuously assess and improve supply chain cost efficiencies, service levels, and logistics performance.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field.
- Extensive experience managing 3PLs, including onboarding and offboarding providers.
- Strong contract negotiation skills with a track record of securing competitive rates and terms.
- Leadership experience, with the ability to manage teams across warehouse and logistics functions.
- Industry experience in consumer products or big-box retail supply chains.
- Hands-on experience operating warehouses is highly preferred.
