The Mixer/Extruder Operator is responsible for assigned tasks throughout the Production Department. These industrial type tasks include operating mixers, extruders and various support equipment that are part of the production process. Included in these tasks are cleaning, routine maintenance, operation of the various equipment and material handling activities. All tasks are expected to be performed following the company’s General Policies and specifically the safety procedures and guidelines. Attention to details while producing quality products in an efficient and timely manner is essential to be successful in this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Supports all safety and environmental objectives of the facility and follows established policies and procedures.
- Operating plastic extrusion and mixing equipment, including set up, trouble shooting, adjusting, and performing quality control tests.
- Weighing and Mixing ingredients.
- Performing material handling tasks including filling bins/hoppers with ingredients.
- Weighing and packaging finished products.
- Cleaning work area and machines.
- Operating a forklift truck and Aerial Platform Lift as needed.
- Operating auxiliary equipment such as scales, driers, blenders, pumps, classifiers, conveyors, and injection molders.
- Assists in training of others
- Continuous checks of product quality
- Ensure processes and test results are properly documented and any anomalies properly communicated.
- Good attendance. On time all the time and lead by example attitude.
- Production and Plant cleaning tasks.
- Other related duties as assigned
COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
- Must be able to read, write and speak English.
- Must have legible penmanship.
- Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiple and divide) ability to work with fractions, decimals, weights, and measures, with or without a calculator, are required.
- Must be able to identify and solve basic problems, reporting complex problems to a supervisor or Maintenance.
- Must be flexible, organized, detail oriented, able to work in fast-paced environment and willing to learn all facets of our manufacturing process.
- Must have good communication skills.
- Basic computer data entry skills
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- 1-2 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- 1-2 years of experience in the plastic compounding industry or similar environment is preferred.
- 1 years’ experience driving a forklift (sit down) preferred.
- Familiarity with lock out tag out procedure and other standard safety procedures in an industrial environment.
- Experience with batch blending and mixing is an advantage.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift 50lbs. frequently, including the ability to climb and descend stairs at times.
- Awareness of environment; manufacturing, warehouse and areas with temperature swings, noise hazards, moving parts and forklift traffic.
- Ability to utilize PPE including hearing protection, eye protection, safety shoes and occasionally a respirator and protective clothing.
- Ability to detect color for quality.
- Ability to use and operate equipment controls and hand tools fluidly without restrictions.
- Ability to understand and follow all Company Safety, Environmental and Quality Policies and Procedures.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment varies from loud when in the plant area to quiet in the office areas.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
