This role is part of the Oncology R&D team tasked with supporting Clinical and Commercial production across multiple sites.
As the Data Scientist of Digital and Data Science in the Analytical Sciences department, you will support the development, testing, and validation of digital solutions and data science applications aimed at improving analytical methods. You will contribute to laboratory digitalization programs, driving operational and data automation using fit-for-purpose technologies to transform analytical workflows. Collaborating with assay development scientists, you will help ensure process development, product characterization, and establish testing methodologies for novel engineered cell therapy products. Your work will involve close partnerships with the Process Sciences, Analytics, and Technology (PSAT) team, and the Quality team within Cell Therapy Development & Operations (CDTO), to build the requisite technical expertise for implementing activities both internally and with third parties. This position is located in Santa Monica, CA and will report to the Associate Director, Analytical Sciences.
You Will:
- Support digital transformation programs to modernize analytical methods, improving operational efficiency and data management.
- Apply data science techniques to support laboratory digitalization, automate data processing, enhance analytical workflows, and increase throughput.
- Collaborate with assay development scientists to ensure process development, product characterization, and testing for engineered cell therapy products.
- Work with the PSAT team and the Quality team within CDTO to gather technical insights and ensure understanding of activities with broader cell therapy development goals.
- Develop and test data science applications, ensuring agreement on our strategic goals for product development and regulatory compliance.
- Support the implementation of digital tools and data science techniques to enhance productivity in Analytical Sciences, in cell therapy applications.
- Contribute to project execution and external partnerships, ensuring teams meet milestones and deadlines.
- Share technical expertise with team members and collaborators.
- Stay current with advancements in digital solutions, and data science applications in the biopharmaceutical industry.
You Have:
- Five (5) years with BS/BA, or three (3) years with MS/MA, or a PhD in data science, computational biology, bioengineering, or a related field with relevant post-graduate experience.
- Experience with data cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, or Snowflake).
- Proficiency in Python and SQL required;
- Experience with C++ or other relevant languages is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience applying statistical modeling and machine learning algorithms (e.g., regression, classification, and clustering) to complex datasets.
- Familiarity with common ML frameworks and libraries (e.g., Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Experience with data cleaning, preprocessing, and feature engineering techniques.
- Proficiency in creating clear and impactful data visualizations using tools/libraries (e.g., Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly, Tableau, Power BI).
- Experience with version control systems, particularly Git.
- Experience with analytical bioassays, ICH guidelines, and cGMP requirements.
- Knowledge of Quality by Design (QbD) approaches to analytical method development, including gap and risk assessments, Design of Experiments (DOE), and statistical analysis.
- Strong analytical skills with a knack for tackling ambiguous challenges.
- Ability to explain complex data insights to diverse audiences (both technical and non-technical).
- The annual base salary for this position ranges from $80,653 to $120,980. However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles).
