Position Overview
XSITE is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented AI/ML Intern to join our San Diego team part-time. This role offers the opportunity to support the Department of Defense by developing AI and ML tools, along with working to create tools for internal business development. This position is ideal for a college student in their junior or senior year pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
As a growing defense contractor, XSITE offers interns the opportunity to contribute to impactful projects supporting national security. Interns will gain practical experience, build professional networks, and may be considered for full-time employment upon graduation or part-time work extension, contingent upon work availability. This paid internship opportunity will provide hands-on experience contributing to real-world defense projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and implementing AI/ML models for government and internal use
- Assist in optimizing AI/ML models for performance, accuracy, and scalability
- Collaborate with AI/ML engineers to develop and maintain documentation, testing procedures, and monitoring strategies for deployed applications
- Stay up-to-date with the latest AI/ML trends, tools, and best practices
- Gain exposure to DevSecOps and the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
Basic Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related field
- Interest or classroom experience in using Python to develop AI/ML tools
- Ability to learn new skills through open-source resources like YouTube and Stack Overflow, and through pair coding
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate
- U.S. Citizenship (required for this role)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance and willingness to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA)
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with Python or Javascript
- Understanding of basic AI/ML terms, such as vectorization, hallucinations, and explainability
- Experience with VCS, such as Git
- Active U.S Security Clearance
