Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Landfill Operations Superintendent to oversee all daily operations at a landfill facility in
Narvon, Pennsylvania. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader with extensive knowledge of solid waste management, site maintenance, regulatory compliance, and team supervision.
The Superintendent will be responsible for ensuring smooth operations, infrastructure upkeep, staff training, safety, and adherence to permit conditions. You’ll also collaborate closely with leadership and present operational updates to the Board of Directors as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily landfill operations and maintenance activities
- Oversee and inspect work performed by landfill operations staff
- Train and assign duties to site personnel; conduct performance evaluations
- Recommend operational improvements, equipment needs, and staffing plans to the Executive Director
- Enforce safety policies and the Authority’s Preparedness, Prevention, and Contingency (PPC) Plan
- Ensure compliance with all PADEP permit conditions and applicable regulations
- Inspect and monitor landfill infrastructure (e.g., equipment, buildings, wells, roads, gates, fences)
- Generate and submit reports on equipment and facility conditions
- Manage purchasing activities: create requisitions, prepare cost estimates, and recommend vendors
- Develop work schedules and standard operating procedures to boost efficiency
- Contribute to the Landfill Operating and Development Plan, including updates and reviews
- Serve as the designated Site Emergency Coordinator
- Present updates to the Chester County Solid Waste Authority Board of Directors as requested
Required Qualifications - High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 5 years of experience in solid waste management, public works, or heavy construction
- 3+ years in a managerial role
- 2+ years operating and maintaining landfill or heavy construction equipment
- Strong understanding of landfill safety, site development, and operational best practices
- Working knowledge of PADEP regulations and permit requirements
- Proficient in reading topographic and engineering drawings
- Skilled in Microsoft Office (Windows-based)
- Valid Driver’s License
- Must obtain SWANA Manager of Landfill Operations Certification within 1 year of hire
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related discipline
- Advanced training in areas such as public works, stormwater/erosion control, environmental protection, or construction management
- Experience analyzing operational data to enhance efficiency and safety
