As part of our growth strategy, we are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Machine Shop Manager to lead our machining operations.
Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Supervision:
- Manage and lead a team of machinists and technicians.
- Provide mentorship, coaching, and performance feedback to enhance team productivity.
- Production Planning:
- Develop and implement production schedules to meet customer demands and deadlines.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure a smooth flow of materials and information.
- Machine Operation and Maintenance:
- Oversee the operation, setup, and maintenance of CNC machines and other equipment.
- Ensure machines are properly calibrated and maintained for optimal performance.
- Quality Control:
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures to guarantee the production of precision parts that meet industry standards.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure product quality.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Enforce safety protocols and procedures to create a secure working environment.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards.
- Budget Management:
- Develop and manage the machine shop budget, controlling costs and maximizing efficiency.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles to enhance overall productivity.
- Training and Development:
- Provide training programs for team members to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field (preferred).
Technical Expertise:
- Understanding of various machining operations like milling, turning, grinding, and CNC programming.
- Experience as a machinist strongly preferred
- Machining best practices
- Knowledge of different materials and their machining properties.
- Ability to troubleshoot machine issues and identify potential quality problems.
- Experience with EPR / MRP software
- Schedules, time balancing, clocking in/out of jobs
Leadership Skills:
- Hold team members accountable to company policies and expectations
- Effective team building and delegation of tasks to Machine Shop Lead/Assistant.
- Motivating and coaching employees to maximize performance and skill set.
- Providing clear direction and setting achievable production and quality goals.
Communication Skills:
- Clear and concise communication with both shop floor workers, peers and management.
- Active listening to understand concerns and feedback from direct reports, management and internal customers
Operational Efficiency:
- Optimizing production to meet schedule delivery dates
- Understand production data to identify areas for improvement and implement changes.
Quality Control:
- Ensuring adherence to quality standards and specifications.
- Implementing quality checks throughout the production process.
- Identifying and addressing quality issues promptly.
- Ability to determine proper root cause and implement corrective action to reduce / eliminate quality issues
Safety Focus:
- Prioritizing employee safety enforcing safety procedures.
- Regularly conducting safety training and inspections.
Adaptability:
- Staying updated on emerging machining technologies and industry trends.
- Flexibility in adjusting operations based on changing customer demands.
Financial Acumen:
- Understanding of revenue, gross margins and budgets to make the correct decisions in the machine shop to help Primes reach its financial goals
- Making informed decisions regarding capital investments in new equipment.
