Warehouse Supervisor – Freight Forwarding (OOG / Forklift / Overhead Crane)

Our client is a leading international freight forwarder specializing in project cargo and out-of-gauge (OOG) shipments. With a strong footprint in global logistics and a commitment to safety and service excellence, they are seeking a hands-on, experienced Warehouse Supervisor to join their growing Charleston operation.
Role Overview:
As Warehouse Supervisor, you will be responsible for managing daily warehouse operations, supervising loading/unloading of cargo (including OOG freight), and ensuring safety and efficiency in all handling procedures. Your background in forklift operation and overhead crane handling will be essential to the role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and coordinate daily warehouse activities, including receiving, storage, and dispatch of cargo
- Supervise a team of warehouse operatives and ensure adherence to safety protocols and operational procedures
- Handle Out-Of-Gauge (OOG) cargo, ensuring secure and compliant loading/unloading
- Operate forklifts and overhead cranes for cargo movement and positioning
- Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with audits and inspections
- Liaise with operations and project teams to support logistical planning and execution
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of warehouse equipment
- Support the implementation of warehouse best practices and continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements:
- Minimum 3+ years’ experience in warehouse supervision within the freight forwarding or logistics industry
- Proven experience handling OOG cargo in a warehouse or yard environment
- Certified forklift operator with extensive hands-on experience
- Experience operating overhead cranes – certification preferred
- Strong knowledge of warehouse safety protocols and cargo handling regulations
- Ability to lead, motivate, and manage warehouse staff effectively
- Good communication skills and a proactive, problem-solving mindset
- Flexible and able to work extended hours or weekends as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
- OSHA safety training/certifications
- Experience with international or project cargo logistics
- Familiarity with WMS or inventory software systems
